Sylvester Brothers Handcrafted Log Homes was founded by Don and Tim Sylvester when they moved to Saskatchewan from British Columbia in the mid 70’s.  Don learned to build Log Homes in BC and he started to build them along with his brother Tim when they moved to Saskatchewan. They have built Handcrafted Log Homes all over Saskatchewan and Alberta.

We specialize in custom hand crafted log homes.  We use full length, natural spruce logs.  We hand peel all of our logs, preserving the natural contours, including the natural taper.  We use the "Scandinavian Scribe-fit" method to fit our logs together. This method was in use all across Northern Europe for hundreds of years.  The logs fit so tightly together that chinking is not required.  We use the same  ancient techniques to fit the logs, but of course we use modern lifting (cranes) and cutting tools (chainsaws).

Ours is a relatively small, family owned company, employing from 4 to 6 men, depending on the season, size of project and how many contracts we have. We are small enough to keep a handle on quality but capable of taking on large projects.  We have constructed simple structures, such as trapping shacks, to very complex multi-tiered designs.  The largest home we have built is 4300 square feet.

We are a custom home builder so we don’t have set plans to build from but we can provide some ideas to start the design process if required.  Some customers come to us with plans already developed in co-operation with a local Architect or designer. Others come to us with a hand drawn sketch.  At times, we also consult with  Engineers or Architects to help them develop workable plans.

We generally only provide the “Log Shell”.  Most of our clients act as a general contractor and hire all the other trades to complete the house or they can hire a general contractor if they don’t have the time to do it themselves.
