THE MATERIS OF ST. JOSEPH'S COLONY, near Balgonie, Sask:

JOSEPH MATERI AND CHRISTINE SELENSKI, came from Mariental, (near Odessa) Russia, (Ukraine) in 1890 to the St. Joseph's Colony.
They had 8 children.
I have written about these Materis and it is in the Sask Archives at the University if Regina.

This page now includes the families of the Materis who migrated to the U.S.A.
They went to Kansas and North Dakota.
Phillip Materi who lives in California has sent most of this info to me, which he gathered from from relatives past and present  and he has done a lot of research through the Germans from Russia Society.

His family ( The Julius Materis) are  connected to the Philip Materi who went to the Settlement of St. Joseph's Colony, Balgonie, Sask.
I have now connected these families who came to North America from the Franzfeld, and Mariental, the Odessa area of Russia, now the Ukraine.

Their heritage dates back to the country of Alsace, which is now a province of France.

I  completed a book on all of these families, with the co-operation of my cousin Phillip Materi.
I still have two books available.

THE RIPPLINGERS:

The Ripplingers are connected to my Materi family by my grandmother Margarite Ripplinger, who married Eugene Materi, son of Joseph Materi and Christine Selenski.

A cousin from Arizona has been very helpful in filling a lot of early information about the Ripplingers and the descendents who came to North America. They came to North Dakota and from there spread to Saskatchewan, Canada and many parts of the U.S.A.

Two years ago I received information about three more branches of my Grandmother's families of the Elsass, Kutchutgan, Ukraine.
After the war she lost of track of them and Now I know the story of how they went to Kutschurgistan, and from there some have gone to Germany now, in the 1980's.

I have also been touch with several other members of these families.
