STEWART
TURNER PHOTOGRAPHY
![]() I live in Nanaimo, British Columbia on the east coast of Vancouver Island. Blessed with a temperate climate, rainforest and the Pacific Ocean, Vancouver Island is a great place to live and a photographers paradise. In
the late 1970's, when my wife
and I were starting our family, we bought our first camera, a Canon
AE-!. In those days I shot mostly slide film and as our
family
got older, the cost of film and developing became too much to justify
so
we tended to only use the camera for family occasions such as birthdays
and holidays. I'm certain that this is a familiar story for
most
people. I' m attached to this old camera
and still
use it from time to time.
Now
I use Nikon equipment and l
love
everything about the new digital photographic process. From
the
pleasure of being outdoors with my camera, to editing images in
Photoshop (the digital darkroom) to sharing my work on this website,
it's great fun and very rewarding for me. Most of the time I
use
a tripod. In my opinion, this improves camera stability,
image
sharpness and encourages better
composition. I enjoy
photographing things that generally go unnoticed and are found in
common places. As an example, the wildflower images were
almost
all found adjacent to roadways in my neighbourhood.
