The New Song group is the primary worship team at the 11:00 services and the Summer Contemporary Services, consisting of 3 to 6 singers, electric piano, guitars, drums, recorder and auxiliary percussion.
The group was formed to sing at St. Luke's 100th Anniversary celebrations in 1990. New Song initially started leading the congregation in a contemporary Gradual hymn, after which those members involved in Sunday School left with the children.
In 1994, believing that God was leading St. Luke's towards a more contemporary renewal service, several members of New Song were actively involved in "planting" the new 11:00 service.
The group searches continually for "new songs" and matches each Sunday's songs to the scripture readings of the day.
