Dear Parents,

St. Joseph is a well-established Catholic elementary school in Kelowna.  It was first established in 1938 by the Sisters of Charity to cater to Catholic parishes in the community.  Today St. Joseph School works with approximately 350 students, 35 staff, 275 families and 8 parishes.  There are two classes at each grade level in grades kindergarten to grade seven.  Following Roman Catholic tradition, a Christian atmosphere is created and nurtured to allow a child to grow and develop his/her potential.  If we in Catholic schools can assist each individual child to develop his/her talents and gifts, to have a strong ethic, to have a love of learning, and to continually build a deeper relationship with God, then out mission as a Catholic community has been successful.

As such, we recognize you, the parents, as the first educators of your children, and that you have a very vital role in their education.  You set the stage for your child’s entry into the Catholic school.  Your interest and concern for St. Joseph School and its happenings are important.  Parents are encouraged to communicate with the staff just as the staff is encouraged to communicate with you. It is through this two-way communication that your child, our students, will be most successful.

For St. Joseph School to continue to develop as the excellent school it is, your support is critically needed.  Please become involved and share the load with all parents by giving of your time and talents for the benefit of all the children.  Volunteers are always welcome and much appreciated!

The Parent Handbook has been prepared as a guide for you.  Please take time to read through the handbook especially the mission statement.  This statement was created with input from the staff and parents and is revised periodically to meet the changing times.  We believe it is important to continually try to incorporate it into all aspects of our school.  In addition, school goals are created each year with strategies and outcomes in order to give the school direction for constant growth.

We look forward to working with you in helping your child to grow and develop.  May we all continue to reach out to others in faith through love and service to our Lord.

Together in Christ,

Rita Smith
