Tape 19 :   The John Peel  BBC Radio Shows

Five radio shows  recorded between March 73 and Jan 75
These are "live' in the BBC studios .
The background to these recordings : Musicians Union
rules ,intended to keep musicians working, limited radio
airplay of 'recorded music' . This led to this "Live " BBC
recordings that were broadcast to get around the limited
per day air time play. These 'Live ' sessions could be played
twice per day without affecting the stations limiting air time
play.  The BBC had a longstanding practise of recording
musicians " In session" , a procedure which falls half way
between making a studio recording and recording a live show.
The sessions averaged 2-3 hours including set up etc and
usually resulted in recording of four or five songs. A backing track
was usually rcorded in mono without vocals or guitar solos. The
backing track was then played back to the band thru headphones.

While the recording has some balance problems this tape is
unique with the three unreleased songs .
All Three are excellent songs . Dreams Come True is a great
Trower  ballad type while the other two are up beat .
                                   Must Have !!

A Little Bit Of Sympathy / Too Rolling Stoned / Rock Me Baby

This is an excellent bootleg. This is a rare show IMO
one, for the versions of "Welcome To Reality " and "
"Where I'm Getting To" which I really like, and two Robin
really gets into some strange stuff. He really  experiments
all through this show. Trower and Pattison seem to really
be comfortable playing off each other.
"Whisper Up A Storm " is REALLY different from the
studio release with Livvy on vocals. Gives you a real view
on how 20th Century Blues MIGHT have come out with
Davey and Glen (and please if anyone knows the drummers first
name let me know) behind Robin vs The later format.
This is a great show . Two or Three glitches( mic feedback)
                                    Highly recommended !!!!!
