Bill Lordan
.........
Have
you ever noticed in most casual photographs of bands playing that the drummer
is usually the one whose face is obscured by a cymbal or a mic stand?
Having barricaded themselves behind that protective wall of wood, metal
and chrome, they are, for the most part, relatively quiet, and unassuming,
waiting for that moment when the players in front catch their eye. The
song starts and suddenly the wall of wood and chrome comes alive.
The heartbeat of the song becomes apparent. Drumsticks flashing,
cymbals crashing, combining each hit of the skins to give emphasis to achieving
the "total sound" that the song is going for. Other songs require
the precise touch of a diamond cutter to make the cymbals dance lightly,
setting the mood for the other partners to weave their magic, always knowing
that the beat will be there to bring them back should they lose their way.
One
of the best examples of this art is performed by the subject of this page....
Bill Lordan.
Bill
provided the heartbeat for many greats in the world of music, including
Sly and The Family Stone, Robin Trower and even played with the great Jimi
Hendrix.
For
Robin Trower, Bill was a huge part of the success of the band in the early
70's with Jimmy Dewar and returning to tour in the late 80's with the Pattison
line up.
Bill performed on the following Robin Trower releases:
For Earth Below
Live
Long Misty Days
In City Dreams
Caravan To Midnight
Victims Of The Fury
B.L.T.
And was also on the live releases :
King Biscuit In Concert
BBC One Live
