110. Maurice Helferich

---Maurice Helferich Jr. who was born in 1856, and died on December the 31st, 1917. He married Marguerite Pare (later referred to as “Margaret Perry”) on the 15th of August, 1882. She was the daughter of Gregoire Pare and Julie Girard, and was born about 1860. Their children included Maxine Helferich who married Irene Pettypiece on November the 25th, 1919.

BIOGRAPHY: George m Margaret Brown, niece of James Bell, and sister of James Brown. George and Margaret Lived on the wet 1/2 lot 14, Gore, just east of Harrow. Maurice Helferich m Jean Drouillard and moved to Aberdon. William married Jean Lockaby/Lockerby about 1855, and they lived on Con. 3. These families moved to Michigan in 1881, but descendents still live in this County.
Alice. m. Steve Pettypiece of Amherstburg. Other desc, were the Wilson Ilers, the Herbert Tofflemires abd the Solomon Aglas. James Miles Helferich m. Annetta Munger(daughter of John G.) and they moved to Macomb County where they had a large dairy farm. Dewitt Helferich m. Sarah Elizabeth"Libbie" Munger(dau. of Harmon Munger and Adaline Lucinda Quick.)
This family were active Methodists. James and Nettie sang duets in church; James played violin and the musical saw for Square Dancing and the jig. The booklet has many pictures of the early generations.

When she died she was the oldest resident of Amherstburg, and was survived by two of her sons, Lloyd and Howard. Following is her obituary as it appeared in the Windsor Star: Funeral Set for Oldest Amherstburg Resident. Funeral services for Mrs. Stephen Pettypiece, 502 Laird, Amherstburg, will be held tomorrow at Christ Church, Amherstburg. Mrs. Pettypiece died Wednesday in the Lever Nursing Home in Windsor, after a lengthy illness. She was 95 last July and was the oldest resident of the community. Mrs. Pettypiece will be buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery family plot, following services at 2 P.M. conducted by Rev. D. S. Henry and Rev. H. A. Wright. The James H. Sutton Funeral Home, 7 Elm, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Pettypiece was born Alice Helfrich in Colchester South, the daughter of a pioneer family. Her mother was Jean Lockerbie, whose father came to Amherstburg as a soldier with the Black Watch Regiment She had lived for 70 years in Amherstburg and had always given freely of her time to her church, although she was essentially a homemaker. She is survived by two sons, Lloyd J., now Amherstburg town clerk, and Howard of Syracuse, New York. Two deceased sons were Ernest and William, who were killed while serving in the Pacific with the U.S. Army in World War II. A sister, Mrs. Nettie Utter, Detroit, survives. Her husband died in 1933. He was a member of the town council and was employed for more than 40 years by the Detroit Windsor Ferry Company. In later years he was in charge of the Amherstburg dock.


Stephen John Pettypiece

He farmed in Anderdon Township until about 1885, when he and his family moved into the town of Amherstburg. Stephen worked for the Detroit-Windsor Ferry Company for more than 40 years and was, in later years, in charge of the Amherstburg dock.

After his parents died, Stephen went to live with the family of his uncle William PETTYPIECE in Concession 7 of Anderdon Township. He farmed in Anderdon Township until about 1885, when he and his family moved into the town of Amherstburg. Stephen worked for the Detroit-Windsor Ferry Company for more than 40 years and was, in later years, in charge of the Amherstburg dock. Stephen and Alice are buried together in Rose Hill Cemetery, Amherstburg.

311. William John Pettypiece

Moved to Birmingham, Michigan in around 1935. When the United States became involved in the Second World War, William elisted in the Seabees, 121st Construction Battalion and reached the rank of Carpenter's Mate (3rd Class). He was killed in action.
