Welcome to the C6th information page
This C6th page has been created as a learning aid for myself as a beginning C6th player and also for those who are interested in learning this fascinating tuning. Any contributions are welcome. If there are any mistakes, please let me know. I have found that there are basic ingredients in the recipe for learning how to play the steel guitar. They are as follows:
- Plan and adhere to set practice times.
- Understand chord theory and the Nashville number system.
- Train the hands first. The music comes later.
- Jeff Newman's video "The Right Hand Alpha" to train the right hand into the proper position to palm block.
- Joe Wright's videos on right and left hand exercises which are applicable to either pick or palm blocking. Get started by blocking correctly instead of having to correct bad habits later.
Available C6th Courses
- Duane Becker's Basic C6th Course. Very good for beginners who have some experience on the E9th neck. The course compares the E9th to the C6th tuning, has several song exercises for each pedal and knee lever in tab form. Steel exercises are played by Duane and tracks are provided for you to practice with on a CD. $25 Duane Becker, 2747 Wilms Road, Elk, WA 99009-9568 Tel: 509-292-0109
