The security is a very important issue on our building. We all want to feel safe, and the knowledge that there are security systems in place bring some peace of mind.

The security systems are not a preventive measure, although they will make the task more difficult for an individual trying to break into the building; if this occurs there will be some means to identify when it happens, check records in the cameras and it may be possible to identify the individual(s). Unfortunately, those are actions that can be done after the incident has taken place because no matter how sophisticated a security system might be, there will always somebody that will risk to be caught and will take any given opportunity to try to breach the system.

The best thing we all can do is to close that window of opportunity to anybody willing to take that risk, because the reality is that there will always be somebody trying.

Prevention tips:

Whenever you are leaving the building through either the main or the back lobbies, if there is somebody at the door that is coming into the building, wait for that person to either be buzzed in or to use his/her own card. If they just wait for you to leave so they can get in, let them know they have to wait to be buzzed in and that they can not go anywhere pass the lobbies if they don’t have a valid card, a key or have been granted access.

If you are coming into the building, ensure the door closes after you have entered, and that nobody is following you.

If somebody gets in, ask whether they live in the building, and if they can not provide a reasonable explanation report to the resident manager.

In the parked, stop an wait for the gates to completely close. If there is another car behind you , it will have to wait for the door to close and the driver should use his/her own card to open the gate.

If you are behind another car, stop before the gate, wait for the door to close and then use your card to open the gate and enter.

Usually the building residents will follow these simple actions, be kind when asking somebody to wait to be buzzed in, and don’t get upset if somebody ask you if you live in the building, we all are watching after each other, besides you may take the opportunity and get to know some of your neighbors.
