STAGES NEWSLETTER                   JANUARY 2012

Happy New Year and Welcome Back!

We will be beginning to measure students for their June Recital costumes. All students planning to

perform in the June show are measured. If for any reason you cannot perform with your class, please let

teachers AND the office know immediately. If we are not notified we will assume all students are

participating, and therefore responsible for costume fees. The recital will be held on Saturday, June 9,

2012 at the University Center Farquhar Auditorium.

A Note To Parents About Costume Deposits

The costume deposit is collected to put towards the costume costs for the June recital. Typically the final

cost of the costumes will be $60 - $120 each. The costume deposit is non-refundable. As costumes are

sized and made specifically for each student, you are responsible for the entire cost of the costume

even in the regrettable circumstance that your child is unable to perform in the recital. Please note

that this is a deposit only – any outstanding balance will be collected in early February. You will be

notified and invoiced by mail.

Presidents Message
WELCOME BACK AND LET ME BE THE FIRST TO WISH YOU another fantastic season at STAGES for 2011-12. I cannot express enough gratitude to all the students, parents, staff and our STAGES community that work so hard to create each successful year. This coming year will be filled with some incredible guest teachers, including Craig Hempsted, Jack Horne, and some members of So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

As artistic director I have no other motivation than to provide a facility that is safe, creative, surrounded by top notch talent and teachers to make you a better dancer, a thinking dancer, and a dancer who has a vast vocabulary. Dance is about discovering and surpassing your personal best. To hone your skills and expand your craft. To learn how to be a strong link in an ensemble number. The only person you’re competing against is yourself. Be better and be unapologetic about your interpretation of your work. Do take risks. Do push the envelope. Do celebrate the art form and your uniqueness. Do be generous. Whatever you decide to be, the lessons that you learn in an artistic environment are lessons that you can take with you anywhere. I am so lucky to be doing what I love to do, and so lucky to be working with such talented & inspiring young students.  I thank you.

A Note about Shoes

As the weather is beginning to get wetter and muddier, we ask that all students who wear their shoes inside of the studio bring a second pair of inside shoes to dance in. This helps us greatly in keeping the floors clean and in good shape.
