Campbell Icefield 2005   We returned to Campbell Icefield Chalet, February 26- March 5, for the third winter in a row. This year, with some of our usual group out due to injury or other plans, we had assembled a widely varied crew of sixteen skiers, thus many days saw us splitting into three or four teams, depending on ability and desires.  The past month had seen very little snow fall in the Rockies, the last significant amount was two weeks earlier, and previous groups had done their best to track it all up. However, with the wide variety of terrain and aspects,we had good skiing every day, and the good stability and fine weather almost made up for the lack of new snow, allowing us to enjoy some fine touring on the Campbell Icefield and beyond. The highpoint of the trip, for seven, was ascending Mt. Alan Campbell. Other destinations included East Peak, the Bluewater Glacier, Barnard Shoulder, the Dome, and Diamond Ridge. Here are a map and a panorama, showing some of the routes that were skied. After skiing, as always, we enjoyed hot saunas, good company and fine meals, courtesy of our multi-talented group. Thanks to everyone for making it happen!   Unfortunately, I decided to mess about with my camera settings, resulting in many poor quality images. Some were salvageable and are included, but the colors and contrast may be off. To view the pictures, set your monitor to View/Full screen, then click here. The slideshow should load and play automatically. |
