The Audi S6 for the 1997 model year was the last of it's breed
According to Audi Canada only 23 of these specimens were imported to the shores of North America; in particular, Canada
"Only in Canada, you say?"
To coin a phrase....yes
Due to the previous model year's regulation to comply with the (then) new OBDII standard, the old C4 chassis Audi UrS6 was ineligible for official import into the USA after (and including) MY 1996. Canada got the remainder of the imports to the continent, although there were several cars that were purchased here and subsequently moved south of the border. Tightening restrictions over the years in many States has seen some of these cars being slowly squeezed out.
There has also been some contention as to whether or not the Audi Canada figure is accurate. Previous reports from Audi USA pegged the figure at 73, however they may not be the most reliable source given that the car was never officially part of their domain.
Therin lies the dual purpose of this webpage; to shed some light on the true importation figures and also to preserve a record of possibly one of the rarest models (for the year) imported by Audi to our shores
Update: We are currently sitting at 22 cars accounted for and I know of at least 2 others that the current owners have not responded to requests for info. In light of that I think we can safely assume that the real import figure for 1997 is most likely the 73 number and not 23 as Audi Canada forwarded.
Nevertheless, I will continue to document and track these (still) very rare versions and with any luck we may eventually account for most of them.
Disclaimer: there were many more of these cars imported worldwide to other markets (including the S6+), however this list is in no way intended to track or account for those cars unless they happened to find their way to our shores over the years.
