Garden Rules and Regulations

The garden area is land owned by the Canadian Red cross that has been leased to the Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society for the benefit of the Allard Street Community Garden membership.

To ensure satisfactory use of the garden area, garden policies have been implemented.

Responsibility

Pathways are to be maintained at all times.  Do not dig into main paths; keep paths level, rock-free and free of personal items and garden debris.  Weeds and garden waste should be put into the composting bin marked A; recyclables should be placed in yellow and blue boxes and all other debris goes in the garbage can.

Water service is available between May 1st. and October 1st.  unattended watering is not permitted.  Notify Garden Coordinator of any leaks.  Make sure faucets are turned off when you leave the garden and keep hoses nearly rolled up.  Be sure to not water other gardener's plots without their permission.  Please try to conserve water by using provided rain barrels - ensure that they are filled up so water is available for all members.

No pets are allowed with the exception of Seeing Eye Dogs, in the community garden area.  In public area outside the garden gates, pets must be firmly leashed and kept to the pathways.  Members are responsible for any cleanup.

The garden gate is to be kept closed at all times.  The garden is open from 8 am until 8 pm, seven days a week.  Please carry your Garden I.D. card when gardening during off hours.  Do NOT allow others to copy the garden gate key without permission from the Garden Coordinator.  If you want someone to work your plot or pick your vegetables when you are sick or away, give that person a signed note and inform the Garden Coordinator.  If you are the last person at the garden at closing time - be sure to lock everything securely.

Gardeners have the privilege of borrowing tools from the Community Tool Shed. They are to be cleaned before they are returned to the shed.  Tools are not to be taken home overnight.  Minor repairs should be done as needed.  If you determine that the repair is extensive or beyond your time and/or knowledge, please inform the Garden Coordinator.

No construction is permitted around garden plots without prior approval from the Garden Coordinator.
