The Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society first began in 1908, but was
discontinued for eighteen years due to World War I. The Society was
restarted in 1926 and is still going strong today – 80 years later!
The
Red Rose
is the recognized flower of the Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society.
The Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society is a member of the
Ontario Horticultural Association. At one time, the Sault’s
area was combined with the North Bay and Parry Sound areas. In 1963, the
districts were re-aligned, and the Sault became part of OHA District 13,
taking in eleven other societies. District #13 presently includes:

Representatives from each Society meet three (3) times per year to
discuss new information from the Ontario
Horticultural Association received by the District Director, talk
over problems, provide new ideas and plan for future meetings.

To celebrate this
event, the Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Association has undertaken a
project to obtain a commemorative park bench complete with plaque to be
located by our Memorial Rose Garden in Bellevue Park. |
