        Welcome to the
        Sault Ste. Marie
     Horticultural Society

       Who Are We?

The Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society first began in 1908, but was discontinued for eighteen years due to  World War I. The Society was restarted in 1926 and is still going strong today – 80 years later!

The Red Rose is the recognized flower of the Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society.

The Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Society is a member of the Ontario Horticultural Association.  At one time, the Sault’s area was combined with the North Bay and Parry Sound areas. In 1963, the districts were re-aligned, and the Sault became part of OHA District 13, taking in eleven other societies. District #13 presently includes:

Sault Ste. Marie  Lake George (Echo Bay)    St. Joseph Island  Bruce Station
Thessalon      Assiginack (Manitouwaning) Massey-Walford  Blind River
Espanola        Campbell (Providence Bay)   Sudbury    Elliot Lake

Representatives from each Society meet three (3) times per year to discuss new information from the Ontario Horticultural Association received by the District Director, talk over problems, provide new ideas and plan for future meetings.

Thank you for helping us celebrate in 2006 our 80th Anniversary

To celebrate this event, the Sault Ste. Marie Horticultural Association has undertaken a project to obtain a commemorative park bench complete with plaque to be located by our Memorial Rose Garden in Bellevue Park.
