Vahid

The wisest Persian that ever lived.

Brilliant and noble, heroic he was.

Chosen by the king as the best in the land.

Sent to the Bab to investigate Him. Vahid! Vahid!

Vahid was incomparable; he feared no one at all! (repeat all)

Proudly intending to belittle the Bab,

Vahid soon found himself nothing at all.

In the presence of the Bab, he weakened and fell.

With the Beautiful Bab, his heart's desire was filled. Vahid! Vahid!

Chorus 2: The most peerless of the peerless in the eyes of God,

Vahid saw the Promised One in the Gentle Bab! (repeat all)

Bridge: Never was there one so marvelous

Never was there one sublime.

Never was there such a sweet heart,

So brilliant and divine.

Vahid knew the Bab was the Spirit of God,

And the Source of all Truth, he bowed to that Youth.

This newborn Faith he would teach brilliantly,

Steadfast and firm and eloquently. Vahid! Vahid!

Vahid arose and he found many souls,

Eager to listen to the truth he'd unfold.

Proclaiming the coming of the Bab everywhere,

With courage and boldness, and a power so rare. Vahid! Vahid!

Chorus 4: The most influential leader and wise man of his time,

Thousands gathered round him, attracted by his charm. (repeat all) (bridge)

With wonderful joy and magnificent love,

Vahid arose to teach everyone.

In cities and towns, he was destined to win

Loyal believers, their souls enlightened. Vahid! Vahid!

Chorus 5: The most popular, respected, audacious, brave and strong,

Vahid shone with a glory born from the Promised One. (repeat all)

The religious leaders, they hated Vahid.

Some saw his fall as a means to their greed.

Many were jealous of his great victories,

Of his wealth, and his aims, and his prosperity. Vahid! Vahid!

Chorus 6: The most fearless of the fearless in the Cause of God,

Valiantly and freely, he praised the Majestic Bab. (repeat all) (bridge)

His enemies harbored one hostility.

They schemed to destroy the able Vahid.

Combining their forces of darkness and doom,

Amassing an army to overthrow him. Vahid! Vahid!

Chorus 7: Unique was Vahid's talent to change the hearts of men.

He attained the highest station that no man could transcend. (repeat all)

Siyyid Vahid set the people on fire.

Ablaze with that light, they would never expire.

Vahid was the people's shepherd and guide.

In no greater one could the people confide. Vahid! Vahid!

Chorus 8: Vahid outshone the greatest scholars of his time.

Thousands were inspired by his knowledge so sublime. (repeat all) (bridge)

Vahid's defenders would never give in.

They scattered their foes, they knew they could win.

Deceived by their enemies base treachery,

Who swore on the Quran, then broke their decree. Vahid! Vahid!

Chorus 9: Eager was Vahid to show them the Truth,

Staunch in his Faith with a great certitude. (repeat all)

They tortured his friends with much cruelty,

Punished and hurt them so terribly.

Vahid had tried to bring peace to his foes,

But they were so brutal, so savage, so low. Vahid! Vahid!

Chorus 10: So great was his spirit, so radiant and fine.

His attributes were marvelous, lofty and sublime. (repeat all) (bridge)

11.

Vahid was stoned and beaten to death,

Dragged by a horse and tied by his neck.

They cut off his head and stuffed it with straw,

Then sent it as a gift to the prince in Shiraz. Vahid! Vahid!

Chorus 11: Vahid had died a true martyr indeed,

For the Glory of God, the Greatest Glory. (repeat all)

12.

Vahid had placed his whole reliance on God.

He had foreseen the triumph of the Bab.

Vahid had tossed his earthly treasures aside.
