Solstix Biography
| History of our Band Solstix Marimba Ensemble plays mostly traditional Zimbabwean music, from the Shona culture. There are 8 full time members in Solstix whom have been playing Vancouver Island for the last two years at very eclectic venues. Marimba Muzuva, who were our predecessors and teachers, were the first marimba group on the Canadian scene, now there is a whole community spread throughout B.C. As well as Muzuva, Solstix has also been privy to traditional Zimbabwean Marimba and Mbira teachers directly from Zimbabwe.
The music is lively and uplifting and each song has a different meaning. Many of the songs we play were composed by Dumisani Maraire who introduced Marimba music to North America over 30 years ago. Thank You, Enjoy!! ~Solstix |
