Sheepiehollow Rescue Pages
We support the rescue of Old English Sheepdogs and Bearded Collies in need, in our area of central Vancouver Island and elsewhere.
In November, 2005 this one-year-old CKC-registered Old English Sheepdog girl was turned in by her owners to the Nanaimo BC SPCA, in poor condition and suffering from a severe and widespread body rash. Cola was diagnosed with generalised demodex mange and an antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection. Her treatment would be lengthy and costly beyond the resources of the SPCA. However, we were determined to ensure that this sweet dog would be restored to health and placed in a loving furever home.
In December 2005 we appealed to the world of Old English Sheepdog lovers online for donations to help with the heavy costs anticipated for Cola's treatment. The response greatly exceeded our expectations. Help poured in from members of the OES email lists as well as doggy friends not on the list, together with generous support from New England Old English Sheepdog Rescue Inc. All funds received were deposited to a special Cola Account at the Island Veterinary Hospital.
Cola's strong response to a relatively inexpensive treatment of the options available, plus the generous efforts of the Clinic staff to minimise costs, resulted in surplus funds which were then directed to a major OES rescue project in Eastern Canada that was supported by the Old English Sheepdog and Owners' Club of Canada and New England Old English Sheepdog Rescue Inc.
All of us involved in Cola's rescue and restoration to health thank all of her donors for their generous support.
