Dash Icon Rub-Down Transfers

While deciding on what to do with Sharkey's dash, I was constantly wondering what I was going to do to help identify the various switches and indicator lights. Now I suppose that I could eventually memorize each and every one, but that doesn't look so hot to someone not familiar with my car. I wanted something that would go the extra distance towards making the dash look halfway "original".

What I ended up doing was using "rub-down transfers"— aka: letraset. These are those little symbols printed on what I can only describe as "heavy waxpaper", which transfer to another surface by applying pressure with a pen or pencil. I came up with a set of icons using Adobe Photoshop, and then managed to track down the only fellow in Canada that is still set up to do the process of creating the rub-down sheets. Luckily, he lives not far away in neighbouring West Vancouver.

The icons are as follows (left to right, top row): windshield washer fluid, gas (tank), power antenna, brake failure, left signal, high beam, right signal, charging system, Oberg tattle tale light (or whatever), rear window defogger; (middle row): pulse wipers, foglights, transmission fluid temperature, dash light intensity, headlights, hazard, parking brake, air conditioning, exhaust temperature, heated seats; (bottom row): wipers, oil pressure, water temperature, nitrous oxide, courtesy lights, nuclear reactor, cooling fan, oil pressure buzzer, oil temperature, heated mirrors.

These icons are not to scale. The actual scale of the entire sheet above is 3cm high and 10cm wide. This makes each icon approximately 1cm square, including a certain amount of waste space. The icons are "white on transparent", meaning that when you transfer them to you dash (or whatever) only the white part will actually transfer. The transfers will have a tendency to rub off unless you apply a layer of clear coat over top. I applied my transfers between the base coat and clear coat of my dash.

I have a limited number of these sheets in my possession. Price is $5 US per individual sheet (3cm by 10cm), including shipping. If you are interested in one or more sets, click here.
