Since 1993...

Shan~e~Punjab (SEP) Dance School began in 1993, teaching over 300 students, which some have been a part of SEP for 9-13 years. Mrs. Buncy Pagely, requested SEP to participate in the Parade of Nations, a preliminary event leading up to the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games. The fall of 1994, we performed at the “Rangeela Rang” Show honouring Ms. Kamaljeet Neeru. For ten years performed at the annual Saanich Multicultural Event, “All One Family”.

In 1995, we organized the School District of Victoria, Multi-Cultural Programs.

In 1996, at the Greater Victoria Music Festival (GVMF) Competition, won the Authentic Ethnic Dance and Folk Dance Awards.

In 1997, at the GVMF, we earned the Adjudicator’s Award, in all 200 categories. The Adjudicator was Mr. Jacques Lemay, choreographer for the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games, and the Calgary World Olympics.

From 1998-2000, we were chosen as the final ten amongst over 200 applicants at the annual Chek 6 TV Teen Talent Show. In 1998, SEP won first place at the Mt. Douglas Secondary High School Multicultural Event, the Canadian Flare Magazine Award for British Columbia and Woman of Distinction Award, for making a significant contribution to society. In 2004, SEP participated in the Girl Guides of Canada, International Day, celebrating establishment of a sister city in Poona, India.

In 2005, performed at the Welcome Ceremony, at the Tall Ships Event, Open Air – showing the premier of the movie, “Bride and Prejudice”, and the Dragon Boat Festival.

In 2006, the school performed at the Arts in Victoria Festival, Folkfest and in the summer Opening Ceremonies of the World Martial Arts Games, at the Bear Creek Arena.

In 2007, performed at the main stage, Robson Square, Vancouver (downtown), pre-event for the Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration; Greater Victoria Music/Arts Festival; Canadian Food for the Hungry – Gala Event (Royal Theatre); and the CH TV (formerly Chek 6 TV) Totally Teen Talent Show.
