This is the second of two twin intersections on westbound Memorial Drive: westbound traffic crosses Edmonton Trail northbound and then 4 Street southbound just a stone's throw afterwards (obviously eastbound traffic crosses them in the reverse order). Coming from the north, Edmonton Trail splits into two one-way streets (the southbound road is renamed 4 Street) a few blocks before crossing Memorial Drive, then it crosses the Bow River and becomes 4 Avenue heading into, and 5 Avenue coming out of, the downtown core (see the map below). On both westbound and eastbound approaches, the through signals at the second intersection here have regular reds and yellows but 3M PV greens to avoid confusing drivers waiting at a red light at the first intersection. At the second intersection travelling eastbound a similar assembly is seen, with the biggest difference being that the left turn signal is protected-permitted rather than protected-prohibited.
