Great Big Sea - the musical pride of Newfoundland, known coast-to-coast through Canada. They have been around since 1991, with a flavor all their own, combining Celtic, folk, rock, and traditional Newfoundland genres. They are among my favorite groups, and are also the writers and performers of one of my all-time favorite songs, Ordinary Day. And they have a nicely done website.

Prozzäk - Simon and Milo

Prozzäk - the cartoon duo that is another of my favorite musical groups. Simon and Milo are on a mission to find true love, leaving a trail of dance music behind them, the most famous song probably being Sucks To Be You. At their website you can see all their videos, get a look at the history of the group, and play the very addictive Hot Show Hot Rods game.

Jack FM - 96.9 in Calgary; this is the most recent incarnation of this station. Ever since the frequency first came on the air around 1995 it seems to have been fighting a losing battle against one radio station or another. But, thankfully, it finally seems to have found a winning music mix, and now ranks as my favorite. From this website you can listen to a live broadcast over the web, from anywhere in the world. There is also Jack FM operating out of the same frequency in Vancouver, and the newest one in Toronto on 92.5. Not to be outdone, there is also Joe FM on 92.5 in Edmonton.

MuchMusic - the nation's music station. Makes MTV and VH1 look like garbage, it's that much better. Get a load of this, MuchMusic actually plays music! Here you can listen to music, get the latest music news, chat online, and get profiles of MuchMusic personalities.

The Heebee-Jeebees - this is a 4-man acapella group from Calgary; early in 2001 they released their latest album Heebee-Jeebee TV. You can see them performing around Calgary and across Canada; among other things, they have sung the national anthems at Calgary Flames games and little ditties for radio stations in Calgary and Edmonton. I'm giving them a free plug because I know one of them.

Chris Sheppard's Piratesounds - Canada's #1 DJ is out of control at the control! He has produced several CDs and has his own national radio show. I used to like it better a few years ago, when the music was more dance than rap, but anyway. Chris Sheppard is also a member of the group Love Inc., which sprouted from what was BKS.

MC Mario - another of Canada's élite DJs, he has also produced numerous CDs. His Mixdown is the best dance music countdown in the country. Unlike Chris Sheppard, he has stuck with true dance music, rather than shifting to a more rap-dominated flavor, and I like that a lot.
