This poem was sent to me by a friend because it reminded her of me... obviously she knows me well!

This is that mandatory part of any personal home page that contains a biography of the author. Well here I am, so let's start at the beginning, shall we?

In case you missed it on the main page, my name is Vijay Ramlakhan. I was born at 12:32 PM Mountain Daylight Savings Time, Sunday, August 31, 1980, at the Bow Valley Centre of the Calgary General Hospital, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. At least, that's what I'm told; I was a little too young to remember back then.

Right now I am... *counting on my fingers*... 23 years old, and I live here in Calgary with my parents, 19-year-old sister, our budgie, goldfish, and new big little bunny (awwww!). My sister and I were born in Calgary, but our parents and most of our relatives are originally from Trinidad, the southernmost island in the Caribbean, and all my immediate family has dual citizenship.

To make a long story short, I graduated high school in 1998 from Queen Elizabeth High School, in northwest Calgary, and just graduated after the fifth year of my university career at the University of Calgary, with a chemistry major. Mmmm... fumes.... In November 2000 I had my first lab explosion (!)... I'm a little bit nervous handling chlorine now, but I consider myself to be a true chemist!

I'm a fairly laid back, easy-going kind of guy; I like to smile and laugh, and you can often see me making a fool of myself, in most cases not noticing until it's too late. I speak my mind more than most people; I'm not afraid to tell exactly how it is without sugarcoating anything, although sometimes I don't think before I speak and that has gotten me into trouble on numerous occasions.... I guess I'm also a bit more persistent and stubborn than I should be, but hey, nobody's perfect. Let's just say I stand up for what I believe in, haha. I'm a fun-loving guy, and a little mischievous on occasion too... I have been known to stir things up and cause a little excitement from time to time

My main interests are in the areas of sports and music. I'm a die-hard fan of the NHL's Calgary Flames, despite all the ribbing I take from friends for it Hockey is one of my favorite sports to watch; other favorites include Canadian football (the NFL is too slow and boring, and don't even talk to me about the XFL), NCAA basketball (much more exciting and better basketball than the NBA, GO HOOSIERS!), and cricket (yes, cricket). As for sports I play myself, I am a basketball referee, taking the full brunt of abuse from players, coaches, and spectators right up to the high school level. Within a few years I'll be doing college and then university games, and who knows, someday you might see me reffing in the World Championships, or maybe even the Olympics!

My taste in music prefers just about anything high in energy, in particular dance, acid, trance, and techno (in general, rave music). In some of my mellower moments, slower and more relaxing songs and classical music work well too. I don't particularly like rap, although there are exceptions, and I like some rock stuff and not other rock stuff. I am one of only a few people with a strong dislike for Limp Bizkit and Eminem. Get over it. On the other hand, I'm usually not very picky (with a few exceptions), and will listen to (or at least tolerate) almost anything. And although I don't know how to play a musical instrument, and I have absolutely no dancing ability or talent, I have a masked, but powerful, admiration for those who are skilled in the fine arts, particularly music and dance.
