The historic first pick in the Herb Brooks League belonged to the Westslope Cutthroats. Each team will pick up to 38 players by the time everything is said and done. The first few picks should be cornerstones for each franchise for the upcoming season and beyond. There are many great players available such as Henrik and Daniel Sedin from Vancouver, Sidney Crosby and Evgeny Malkin from Pittsburgh, Ryan Miller from Buffalo and Alexander Ovechkin from Washington to name just a few.
The Westslope Cutthroats had the first pick in the draft to begin the league and the hockey club selected Sidney Crosby to build their franchise around. Crosby is an excellent choice to start the draft as the youngster had 51 goals and 109 points. He should be a high scoring stud in this league for many years to come.

The Buffalo Swords had the second pick in the draft and they made Russian left winger Alexander Ovechkin their choice to lead their club for years to come. The Russian led all scorers in points per game , and tallied 50 goals in just 72 games.
The Lake Erie Watermoccassins were next to pick and they took young phenom Steven Stamkos.
Cincinnati selected fourth and they took young right winger Patrick Kane of the Stanley Cup champion the Chicago Blackhawks. Hampton Roads then went with youth and took 19 year old John Tavares. Sacremento then headed to Europe for their next selection and picked a Russian. Evgeny Malkin will find his way to California.
The Broad Street Bullies never lived up to their name. Most people had GM Dave Schultz looking at George Parros or Derek Boogard. But Bullies went with skill , Swedish skill. Has Dave Schultz found his way. The Bullies picked up young center Niklas Backstrom. Stone Ridge followed up with Anze Kopitar, Albany took the first dman in Duncan Keith and Antioch took the first goalie in the draft Ryan Miller.
