I doubt very much whether the original author of this article is still around, or if anyone cares, but here's my two cents. (I know this isn't a 'Deliverance' page, but I had to write this up anyways) This is in regards to the writeup on Paul Janz http://acmi.canoe.ca/JamMusicPopEncycloPagesJ/janz.html The paragraph in question is the same on your website as on countless others: "In the ten years of their existence, they released three successful albums, reached #1 in Germany and #56 on the Billboard charts (with "Leavin' L.A." in 1979.). In the last year they were together they signed with Global Records who licensed them to a number of different labels worldwide. A solo single recorded by Janz eventually went to Number One in Germany but he was advised not to record an album by his attorney. Meanwhile, although selling well, Deliverance was having financial problems trying to tour and finally, with a stymied solo career and monetary difficulties, Janz decided to pack it in and return to Canada in 1980. " My issues are: 1 - While three albums were successful, four were released under the name Deliverance, the first called 'To God Be The Glory' had the same group members as the first officially acknowledged 'Tightrope'. Paul Janz and Danny Janz were making records for years under the name "Danny and Paul" before they formed Deliverance. 2 - While I don't doubt the group was struggelling after Tightrope, the real reason they couldn't expand further into the North American market was that there was already a group with the name Deliverance registered, and they were suing for a million bucks OR that this Deliverance change their name. The metal band everybody knows called Deliverance wasn't making music at the time, so whether they avoided the same lawsuit or were the original plaintiffs, I do not know. The European group decided to just call themselves 'Janz', since three of the members were Janz's. In the end they decided that they were ready for change, and Paul moved back to Canada. Danny and Ken stayed in Germany, and are still there. Danny in fact is still making music with Canada's Danny Plett for the Janz team, head officed in Winnipeg, with European HQ in Lorrach Germany, 'twin' city of basel Switzerland where Paul studied at the conservatory. To this day, music history websites cannot keep the two Deliverance bands separate, although there is a world of differences between them. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Daryl Sawatzky
