-the newest "horse book" out. A general celebration of the horse in human society, with significant passages discussing North America's wild horses.
 

The Horse in Blackfoot Indian Culture
by John C. Ewers
Smithsonian Institution Bureau of American Ethnology, Bulletin 159, 1955

-this academic book is an ethnographic  study of  the role of  the mustang in Native American cultures. Fascinating, absolutely packed with arcane cultural information.
 

The Natural History of the Horse
by John Clabby
Taplinger Publishing Company, New York, 1976

-a science book written for the layman. Traces the evolution of the horse, its spread around the planet, and discusses horse breeding.
 

The Last of the Wild Horses
by Ron Watts and Richard Adams
Key Porter Books, Toronto, 1996

-Ron Watts' photography is fabulous. This is a large coffee-table book of photographs of wild horses around the world.
