Spring is Here!
(This page is a work in progress)
Craft Idea: Spring Flowers - Trace your child's hand on white paper. Cut out the hand shape then have your child color both sides (the more colors used, the better!) Wrap the hand shape around a pipe cleaner and staple the bottom of it so it stays put. Bend the fingers down so the fingers look like petals. Optional: Put beads on the pipecleaner for the centre of the flower.
Craft Idea: Kites - Using two pieces of tissue paper cut out two identical shapes (I do a bird, my kids do fish) using other colors of tissue paper, glue on decorative elements like fins, feathers, fur, eyes, etc. After decorating, carefully put a bead of glue around the outside edge of your animal then glue both sides of the animal together. Once it's dry, attach some string (a foot or two long - depending on how big your child is) from the mouth to a small stick then run around with it outside!
Spring Snack - Using cookie cutters, cut flower shapes out of fruit, such as watermelon, pineapple and apples. Place a marascino cherry in the middle for the centre of the flowers. you can also string a bunch of the flower shaped fruits on a skewer for a nice decorative touch!

Some FREE and fun things to do in the spring:
- get the sidewalk chalk out of storage!
- take a walk around the neighborhood but wear your old clothes and boots for puddle splashing!
- collect rocks for rock painting
- Go on a "5 senses" walk where you consciously use your 5 senses to enjoy the walk.
- Participate in "Lemonade Day" on May 1st or make a lemonade stand for any other day.
- try out the swingset at the playground or backyard but be prepared to get dirty.
- Go to the zoo. It's still free for a while and is really nice at this time of the year.
- try some bird watching. What birds have returned from their winter vacation?
