Crohn's and Colitis Fundraiser - 2007

Sandalwood black belt testing candidates are required to perform some community service as a curriculum requirement.  The 2007-2008 test group was given the goal of raising $1000 to be donated to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada through a project of their choice.  The project required that a formal proposal be made to the Foundation's representatives and Sandalwood's instructors and that the proposed fundraiser be acceptable to all parties.  What follows is a photographic review of the elements and outcome of the project.

A bit of post-proposal high jinks

The group proposed to hold an all-ages rock concert, had arranged access to an excellent venue at no charge as well as having commitments from several local bands to perform at the event at no charge.  Net gate from the cover charge and any on-site sales would generate funds for the project.  Moreover several other good initiatives for raising funds were proposed.   The proposal met the approval of Sandalwood instructors and the Foundation.

Unfortunately, shortly before the concert was to be held it had to be cancelled because the venue became unavailable.  Undeterred by that turn of events the group developed an alternative plan and on June 11th hosted a Classic Desserts Night with about eighty people in attendance.  Desserts for the event were donated by numerous local businesses, listed at the bottom of this page.
