The intent of this page was to showcase students who exhibit outstanding qualities or who manage notable achievements.  Many of our students owe their Taekwon-Do excellence and accomplishments to our next featured member, Niilo Van Steinburg.

Niilo joined Sandalwood at a pivotal moment in our history and he quickly became a key component of our survival and success.  Niilo’s Taekwon-Do knowledge and his thirst for technical excellence are unsurpassed.   From the onset, Niilo demonstrated his dedication and his generosity by selflessly sharing his knowledge and abilities while pursuing his own training and while attending University to complete a very demanding Engineering degree.

Just as the Sandalwood tree’s exterior does not betray its splendid inner qualities, Niilo’s humility and reserved nature eclipse the litany of virtues that define him.  Above all, Niilo is a compassionate humanitarian who is steadfast in his values while remaining considerate of the views and needs of others.  His quiet strength and integrity epitomize traditional martial art philosophy and values.  Niilo’s sense of humour is also an excellent martial arts metaphor; it is subtle, incredibly witty and carefully exhibited but phenomenally effective and enjoyable.

It has been delightful to have Niilo among us and we hope to enjoy the ongoing honour of having him motivate Sandalwood students and instructors and inspire them to excel in their pursuits.
