What strengths do you feel you bring to Sandalwood? :

As a manager, in my “day job”, I’ve developed a number of skills that will be useful in my capacity as instructor and administrator.  Moreover, my substantial life experience is a valuable asset and assists in the development of our school.

What do you feel are your weaknesses? : Serious knee injuries and some of the ravages of time culminate to make some Taekwon-Do techniques very challenging for me.

What are your Martial Arts goals? :

My primary goal is to continuously increase my knowledge and to upgrade my skills as an instructor, such as by taking N.C.C.P. training.  Also, I hope to test for 4th dan.

What is your favorite thing to do in Taekwon-Do? :

I enjoy most aspects of Taekwon-Do, particularly breaking, but I still get great satisfaction out of working on the fundamental kicking and punching techniques that are the foundation of the art. I also get a great deal of pleasure from teaching.

What was your favorite Taekwon-Do moment? :

My favorite Taekwon-Do moment isn't singular in time but in type. While I enjoy my own accomplishments, I get my greatest pleasure from watching, and contributing to, the advancement and accomplishments of others. Watching my son courageously push through an injury during his black belt test, watching our students develop and grow or seeing the new spark of interest in the eyes of someone to whom I am introducing Taekwon-Do are typical moments from which I derive great pleasure. Meeting Grandmaster Hwang, Grandmaster Rhee and Grandmaster Park have all been notable moments.  Having an ongoing relationship with Grandmaster Hwang, a genuine master who’s knowledge, abilities and conduct are truly inspiring, is an opportunity that I will always cherish.

What is your favorite pass time outside of Taekwon-Do? :

Although parenthood, work and Taekwon-do consume most of my time at the moment, I have a fondness for music, photography, wood working, bird raising and travel, when time permits.

Please include any other information about yourself or your Martial Arts interests :

I became involved in Taekwon-Do primarily as a means to fitness but it has given me so much more that I cannot help but wish that I would have discovered it many years ago. My role as instructor gives me an opportunity to help others discover and advance in this wonderful and rewarding activity.
