General Choi, Hong Hi 1918 - 2002 One June 15, 2002 the
founder of Taekwon-Do passed away. The
members of Sandalwood Martial Arts send out our heartfelt sympathies to
his
family and friends around the world. Below are the entries that
Sandalwood's
Instructors made in the ITF memorial guest book.
Dr. Martin Luther King,
Junior immortalized the words “I
have a dream”. General Choi lived his dream, as he tirelessly spread
the
art that he founded to virtually every corner of our planet. His
incredible legacy is that millions of people, who have never had the
opportunity to meet him or who may not be born until long after his
passing, will nonetheless benefit from his existence and from his
endeavours.
Mahatma Gandhi, the symbol of peace in recent time, may well have encapsulated the compelling power and appeal of General Choi’s Taekwon-Do in his words: “When restraint and courtesy are added to strength, the latter becomes irresistible.” Although General Choi’s
existence has greatly enriched that of human kind, we cannot help but
feel diminished at this time. I offer
my sincere condolences to General Choi’s family, at a time when they
have
lost so much through the passing of their loved one, from whom the
global
community has benefited so greatly.
Sincerely, Sandy Martin "The harder the conflict,
the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too
lightly; it is dearness only that
gives everything its value. I love the man that can smile in trouble,
that can gather strength from distress and grow brave by reflection.
'Tis
the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and
whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto
death."
-Thomas Paine
