We are so fortunate to live in an age where women can express themselves through print. Women have recorded for all time the social ailments of our societies as well as leave a legacy of what a woman's life was like in any given time of history. With Gay People and particularly lesbians it is important that our stories be told. It is important that people read that we had the same worries over employment ,raising  children, relationships and paying the taxes. We are not some unique group of freaks that society can pretend do not exist. As our stories pour forth, the truth will be known that except for gender preference all of us are very much alike. Like the black man who bleeds red blood like the white man , the gay community feel the same pressures ,have the same needs for safety and security as anyone else in our society. By writing our stories even if only in shape of  novels, poetry and erotica we still leave a body of work behind that says we were here and we counted. We cannot be denied even though Hitler tried to gas all the homosexuals and countries have made it a crime to love someone of the same gender. We persevere. I am sure our relatives back centuries ago thought the world was a narrow place and that the despaired of the world they were leaving their children for. It is reading these books that they left behind that we realize we repeat history over and over. It also can make us feel closer to the people of yester year as their same needs were the same basic needs we all have today.; Gay history is relatively new and although your focus may not be on gay topics...all writers are welcome to share your writing here. Good Writers ,bad Writers, Wannabee Writers...we welcome you all. Your webmistress and wannabee writer Samasutra lipstain gif

Constructing Identity

Coolly confident and

calm,

carefully calculating and

comfortably collected,

every crack concealed:

comely.

Fallen yet fearless,

fiercely fickle in

every facet of fluid

fecundity,

she flies:

formidable.

Daringly deceptive,

delightfully daunting

and dark, she

deftly delivers a

deluge of defiance and

dance:

diaphanous.

Broken but unbeaten,

buoyant and bountiful,

she bravely bears the

bricks and bread of

beauty:

built.

She is at once

all of this and nowhere,

none of it and everywhere,

lost somewhere between the words or

behind them or

beneath them,

always elsewhere.

Unknowable,

even to herself,

she waits,

breathless,

for your next utterance to

give her definition:

Woman.

For Returning Members I have revamped this page....Short excerpts of members writings will be shared on this page and if you wish to read the rest a link will take you to another page. The additional pages will not be highlighted in the index . If people are sincere in wanting to read more they will go to the url but this does give a modicum of privacy. All writers please advise if they wish feedback on their writing and if yes please give me email address. Your email address will not be given out but I will provide a link to your email address if you choose. For those braver souls, I will provide a message board in which users can leave CONSTRUCTIVE feed back.

I am also putting up a message board here so writers can share tips, writing contests and arrange to meet online or in real time...It will be your bulletin board.  Remember we have a Canadian Lesbian Writers Email list  for support, advice, private personal discussion in restricted environment open only to serious members. Hopefully, a social dynamic will cause us to meet with one another to share our writing ,successes and challenges.

Forever and Ever by Anne (excerpt)

Reflections of you tread softly through my pondering moments as the snow melts to Spring upon the glacier mountains as I watch a blossom unlock under the warmth of the sun as tiny birds flutter about to unearth their nesting twigs
You are my partner whom I cherish more than life
you deliver peace to my otherwise perplexed world.... POEM CONTINUED AT NEXT LINK

IN THE CONFUSION

Tommi-Boi posted March 25,2002

I wouldn't want you to understand.

Really.

Because the only way you could understand,

Would be if you could climb inside my head

And feel the confusion and pain,

The ups and downs, like a yo-yo, forever in motion.

But I do want you to understand.

In some small way,

Understand that this mental illness,

Is real, even if it is just in my own mind.

That's where it is and that's why it's difficult to believe

When there is nothing to see,

Except the dark circles under my eyes.

No cast, crutches or stitches, no diagnosis of cancer,

More tangible evidence of sickness.

It is as difficult for you to believe in this illness

As it is for me to believe that I will, some day, be well.
