New Members Day
Some longstanding members have encouraged the Club to reinstate a New Members Day. So, that's what we are doing this Sunday (May 20) at the courts!
The weather forecast is promising so come on out to meet this year's new members, have a snack, have a chat and play some tennis. See the attachment for the details.
Doubles Opportunity (3.5 and above)
The Saanich Tennis Club has set aside two, two hour periods -- Monday 6:30 to 8:30PM and Saturday 9:00 to 11:00AM -- for sign-up doubles play at the Viewmont courts for players 3.5 and above.
To register for these sessions, email Coorordinator Bill Bradley bill@bradleyandjacoby.com starting at 7:00 AM two days before the session, i.e., Saturday at 7:00AM for the Monday slot and Thursday at 7:00AM for the Saturday slot. The first eight players to so register get to play: they and the unlucky players will be so advised later that day. If fewer than eight players sign up they can make whatever arrangements suits them (e.g., via email as they will have each others email addresses).
The format is simple: players provide their own tennis balls and organize themselves as to who plays who and for how long within the two hour period.
This initiative stems from comments of those who played Sunday morning doubles at Cedar Hill throughout the winter and wanted a similar summer outlet where, given the prior sign-up, play was guaranteed. Please make a note of the sign-up/play times as there will be no weekly reminder of these.
Members should take note that the above two time slots are now reserved for this Doubles initiative.
Tennis Court and Clubhouse Improvements
STC is most grateful to the Mayor and Council of Saanich, and the Parks Construction and Maintenance division led by Andrew Giles, for their assistance with repairs and resurfacing of the STC tennis courts. Saanich contributed half the costs of this project and the courts are now in awesome shape!
And thank you again to Gary Eggen and his team of stalwart volunteers for the excellent and very spiffy deck repairs and renovations completed last year. STC facilities are ready and waiting for another great summer of tennis!
Rally for the Kids
On Wednesday May 9th, 2012 Panorama Recreation Centre will be hosting their second Rally for the Kids. The evening activities will include appetizers, a silent auction and a tennis exhibition. The money raised is in support of the British Columbia charity Power To Be Adventure Therapy. See the March newsletter for more information
Annual General Meeting
This year’s AGM was held November 20, 11:00AM at Cedar Hill Recreation Centre in the Dance Studio.
A new Board of Directors was elected, 2012 Budget approved, and the 2011 program of activities was reviewed.

Volunteers Needed
The club can only function if willing volunteers come forward to take on the duties necessary to its operation. We do have many who have already signed up to take on certain duties but we have not had any volunteers to take on coordination of many of the planned events.
