Exterior

I like the look of stock-ish SPGs.  I think the best look for them is with the 16" Super Aeros or Aeros, and slightly lowered.  European Aeros or T16S or whatever from '92 on look awesome as well, with the 15" asymmetric wheels.

While the Airflow/Carlsson kit is cool too, I find it a bit bulky looking, with the one piece bumpers.  And they are quite expensive! Prefer the more lithe look of a standard SPG.  And didja know that the SPG/Aero kit was designed in conjunction with the British firm of IAD, of Shoreham-by-Sea?  It actually does help with the aerodynamics of the car.  No idea whether IAD still exists though; they're not listed in my Autosport Directory 2002, but it's not 100% comprehensive.

My feelings are the same with the Whaletail.  Cool, but can't afford it.  Even if I could, dunno if I'd put it on my car.  I've seen a few that are old, and when they're rotty looking, they look bad.

So, generally, the exterior of the car is basically stock.  The money's in the 'go' bits, not the 'show' bits.  I'm really into a more subtle look to the car.  Don't want to attract too much attention.  In fact, my friend once thought my 3" exhaust was stock! It was because I have no tip on the thing, just the pipe sitting there. Looks very plain.

That said, I have a few non standard items on the car.

The clear corners were sourced from a group buy originating from Speedparts Sweden, but you can get them in the US from Engstrom or Taliaferro.  In England, try Elkparts.

The smoked side markers are OE Saab items and are used on current 9-5s and on the NG900/9-3.  Dunno if they're still on the new 9-3 Sport Sedan though.  Amazing, they haven't changed the design at all since Saab started putting them on c900s back in '85! (Or was it '86?)

Also have optional Saab rear vent covers.  Sometimes these show up on eBay.  Otherwise, you can buy reproductions from SAS.

The sunroof deflector was on the car when I got it, so I kept it.

Wheels - I run 16" Super Aeros in the summer, 16" Griffins in the winter.  Dunno. I may one day have to ditch the 16"s and get some 17"s (my favourite right now is the OZ Crono Evolution) to fit in some big big brakes.  We'll see.  That's a big investment, so it's not going to happen any time soon!

The 9000 in the pictures is my friend Robin's '91 9000 SPG.  The 9000 SPG was a Canadian market only car.  Basically just a 9000 Turbo, it differed only in having suede inserts on the seats.  Nice car.  If I ever buy a 9000 for myself, I'd try to find one of these.  Or a later Aero, if my budget can afford it.
