Tuned Port Injection - TPI

Go Back

This page is dedicated to resource information about the Tuned Port Injection, 1985-1989.

1986 TPI setup from a camaro. Hand polished. Vette dist. cover.

Here is some information on Fuel injectors that I have saved, calculated, etc:

Injector List - all the ones I have found (plus 1985-1989 TPI listings)

Injector Conversion Formulas (how to convert cc/min to lbs/hr and more)

Example Injector Pressure Conversions (how to make a 19lb/hr act like a 22 lb/hr)

TPI Resources, Pictures, Misc things I saved:

Adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

SLP air foil. (it was worth nearly 20cfm on my TB as measured on a flow bench)

Pictures of the 1992 Anniversary prototype camaro.  The TPI used a unique set of runners that never did make production.  In examining the pictures, they appear to be siameased about 1/2 way down where they turn into runner tubes.  Since SLP manufactured this, the assumption is that they are based on their production siamease runners. secret_runners1.jpg (77414 bytes) secret_runners2.jpg (120347 bytes)
SLP "T-RAM".  Only produced for the limited production 1992 firehawk.  It's very odd that there is such a restriction just behind the TB. Front.jpg (21222 bytes) Side.jpg (17828 bytes) Bottom-Upper.jpg (39631 bytes) Top.jpg (28226 bytes)

TPI Differences

A common question asked is regarding the differences in TPI castings over the years.  The pictures to the right show the 1985-1990 versions, plus the corvette version.

Throttlebodies

Here is a sample of some of the popular throttle bodies for a TPI engine.  A stock 48mm, 52mm, 58mm and a huge single blade.

Injectors

These are the common injectors found in most "port" injection engines.  Most TPI engines used the pintle style, however there were some late 90's with the ball type.

A listing of the part numbers for the 1985-1989 TPI fuel injectors.

A comparison of fuel pressure vs injector flow.  Theoretical of course.  Not all injectors can flow evenly at a higher pressure.

The ported plenum entrance.  Remove the EGR wall and blend back the sides.  There is not enough material to enlarge it to 52mm all the way bay.  I should have had a welding shop add material just behind the mount so I could port it out.

You can also see the cleaned up entrance on the lower manifold.  As well all my hard efforts in polishing it ... which you can't even see with all the TPI installed.
