Grandparent, D. W. (Winnipeg)
-"I have been using Teach Your Child to Read with my granddaughter. It
provided me an opportunity for togetherness, which was fun for both of us."

Dr. P. B. (physician in Houston, Texas)
-A child patient was taken off ritalin and no longer diagnosed as ADD after a
helper followed the method used in Teach Your Child to Read in 24 Lessons.
The school asked what they had done to achieve this.

E. B. (Toronto)
-"I found the book very helpful in working with my granddaughter who was
diagnosed as 'retarded'."

D. B. (Vancouver teacher)
-"After reading Teach Your Child to Read in 24 Lessons, I've learned why
my ESL students have had the problems they've had, and how to deal with
their difficulties. I would like to take the book to local bookstores, asking
them to stock it."

Remedial reading teacher (Israel)
-"I must tell you that, as someone who has worked with children with learning
disabilities, I was very impressed with your book! It's extremely well
organized. The strange thing is that basically I used your method and am still
using it, as a volunteer, with (foreign) students who need help with their
English."

Psychologist, C. A. (London, England)
-"I must congratulate you on an exceptionally good effort. Firstly, the layout
is so pleasant and clear and it contains the ultimate in what is pertinent and
primary in the teaching of reading. It develops the rationale behind the need
for a strategic approach to the planning and procedures in good reading
practice. The explanations are straightforward and relevant equally to parents
and junior teachers. It highlights all the auditory and visual confusions that are
often the salient handicaps to progress in reading and spelling and that are
commonly overlooked by the busy class teacher. May I reiterate my
congratulations for your first rate book presenting up-to-date, relevant
material and concepts in a consistent and delightful way."

Psychologist, C. M. (Winnipeg)
-"I enjoyed using the section on Magic E with my daughter. I am ordering
another copy for a client."

Psychologist, L. B. (Toronto)
-"I have benefited from using your book to help my clients. I would be
happy to write an endorsement for it and review it for a journal."

From J.S.M., School District 82, Hazelton, B.C.
-"Hi, Ruth; I have three teachers now interested in your book. Your book is
excellent for the volunteers that I have coming in. I just give them the book
and it is easy to follow. What really impresses me is the use of the lower and
higher case letters. My students who have problems with reversal have that
extra added help when they see a capital letter beside it. What a good idea.
Thanks so much for writing it. Thanks, Jane "

Excerpts from a parent's description of her son's improvement after reading therapy with the author of Teach Your Child to Read in 24 Lessons:

"My son, B. has always experienced difficulty in reading and consequently other school work.

He had Resource help in Grade IV. There was never talk of failing a grade and at the same time to my thinking he did not seem to be progressing very well. I helped him with a workbook in language skills and I also worked with him with a tape recorder. I must say that my patience ran thin at this time.

Up to and including Grade 5 there was no mention of any personality problem as a result of B.'s slowness with school work. At the first parent-teacher interview that year, I was told that his work was about the same, but that he seemed to be rather rebellious and uncooperative in the classroom.

After 4 months of one-hour reading sessions once a week, I cannot tell you what a difference this had made to B.'s reading ability. He now will pick up the newspaper and read it and reads books that he must make book reports on -- something that was impossible for him to do before his lessons.

In my opinion Mrs. Bellan has accomplished something that was impossible for the school or myself to do.

B. had gained confidence in himself and is proud to talk about his reading teacher.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Mrs. Bellan for the help she has given B. and if, as she says, there is a method that others could learn to use as well, I would urge the method to be used.

B.'s father has noticed a change in B.'s attitude towards school -- he no longer asks every second day, "How old do you have to be to quit school?" He is also more interested in school projects and discusses school at home.

He also reads signs, etc., that we now realize he couldn't read before but really took for granted that everyone could read.

Dear Mrs. Bellan

I just wanted to write and say thank you for the helpful book that you have written on learning to read. We have undertaken the task of schooling our children at home and consequently have needed to find good tools for teaching. The simple straightforward lessons that you have outlined make it quite easy to help our children discover the joy of reading. Nothing is quite as satisfying as seeing one's own children learn to read. How excited they are as the spots on the page suddenly become recognizable words. We believe that the 24 lessons that you lead us through in the book will set a foundation that will be built upon for a lifetime. Sadly, many children today are being educated and yet remain illiterate, may more parents discover your helpful text.

Best regards,
Dan and Beverly Rutherford.
