The Red Eyed Fly

June 30th/2001

All ten tracks on this recording kept and will continue to keep giving me the desire to go down to Austin and see these guys.  I want to be a part of that special relationship the band seems to have with the audience.  The band are always nothing short of amazing!

Lucky people that live in and around Austin as this show was videotaped. It will be broadcast sometime in the fall on the  Austin Music Network!

Guests - Seth Orrel on drums

Julie's review here!

Poppyseed - Lovely ambient intro.  This is a song where music meets lyrics.  Every time I hear it, I fall in love with it just that much more.

Nashville - Love that creepy intro.  It really sets the mood for this song.  The guys play with such focus on their individual instruments, but it results in everybody just coming together as one.  Nice one.

Foolish Me - Lots of atmospheric blending of voice and instruments.  The band throw themselves head first into this song and it's chock full of energy.

You Are Not Me - Ooh, this song will be on the new studio record!  This performance is outstanding and the amazing musicians once again make it very effective.  The vocal from Spencer is deliciously eerie.

Jaded - This song really flows.  Wonderful sounds and it keeps maturing.  That's :54!  Favorite song to hum.

Early Warning - This song is always a crowd favorite, but I'm happy that I get to listen to it alone.  It is such an uplifting and inspiring song that seems to celebrate loneliness.

Happy Ending - Hello!  Haven't heard this one in a long time and now it's going to be on the new studio record, yay!  Great performance and I can't wait to hear the studio recording.

It Got You Thinking - Seth does it for me in the intro here.  What an absolute powerhouse.  Beautiful keyboards from Stewart (as always) and the bass lines are so solid.  The vocals, what can I say?  I love them.  This performance captures you with sheer musical might!!

Sell It To A Girl - It might have something to do with them being on an outside stage, but the performance has a summer feel to it.  Excellent and you can just see the audience dancing.  That's what I see anyway.

Wanted - This song always comes across brilliantly, due in part to the dreamy sounds coming from Spencer's guitar.  That and his vocals are completely mesmerizing.  Glenn's bass sounds lovely especially against Stewart's impressive keys.  ~swoon~
