Info from the band:
"Area
54 has become Lowlight Sound. We decided we didn't want to confuse
theband and the studio with the name, since they really are
separate entities."(March 21/03)
"We'll send ya'll the details
of outboard gear later.Basically, Area 54 is a hybrid. We have a Tascam
MX 2424 (24-track hard disk recorder) but also an old Ampex
1" 8
track and a Teac 1/2" 8 track. That way we get that warm analog tape
saturation combined with the ease of digital mixing. This all runs
through an old SoundCraft 400 series 26 track mixing board, which as
aside note, used to belong to Christopher Cross." (date unknown)
As mentioned on the live cd "Red
Eyed Fly (June30th/01)", "You Are Not Me" and
"Happy Ending" will be on the new record!
"We've completed recording the first song for our
new CD. It's the one we
debuted at the Speakeasy last week, "Complicated"
Recently "Blown
Away" was recorded as well (Spencer mentions this on
the Speakeasy live show Apr. 18th/01)

There are
about four areas in Lowlight Sound. First room has
instruments/mics and whatnot. Then there is an old bathroom
that is used for it's great acoustics with an upright piano
that is situated in front of the tub. Believe me when I say
that the sounds made in this environment are amazing. I think I was too
awestuck to take a picture when Stewart played a little on the
piano! Then there is the control room with mixing
equipment, computer, cool theatre seating (for sitting back and
listening to how the mixes went). The back of the mixing
equipment is accessed from a separate part of the house.
There is a wonderful vibe in Lowlight Studios. You can
easily see that months are spent by artists perfecting what they
do. It is definitely the place for a musician to create
beautiful music. The studio comes equipped with dedicated
sound engineers and producers. |
