La Zona Rosa

April 14th/2001

I could feel the band's energy right from the beginning.  I love how they love playing.  I'm not sure how big this club is but it sounded intimate.  54 Seconds at their improvisational best.  They always manage to vary things up a bit.  The keys were so impressive and the bass...oh yeeeah, the bass.  Spencer's voice is an instrument in itself and analyzing it is beyond me.  I love it.  The drums were kickin' impossible (ok I stole that line from Ben Stiller)!

I can't see this band live right now, so thank god I can at least hear them live!

I love their moody, atmospheric music. I can't help but swoon and cry over this band.  No matter how many times I listen to them, I'm always left smiling, crying and daydreaming.. do I make sense?

Julie's review here!

"Poppyseed" - Ahh, it's nice to come away from the stress and step into the world of :54 music.  "Poppyseed" is serene and emotion filled.  Beautiful vocals.  The song is mellow but also truly electrifying.

"Jaded" - Okay the highlight of this song is the chilling banshee wail at the start of the solo.  I love this song, it's dark but surprisingly upbeat.  Harmonies and effects are lovely.

"You Are Not Me" - Plenty of frustrated love conveyed in this song.  I love the melody of this song.  The lyrics are what get me.  Heartfelt angst.  Too bad there is somebody shooting their mouth off during most of it.  No matter the band carries on and manages to overpower it and I'm left feeling satisfied.  Ethereal ending.

"Foolish Me" - Steller intro!  Seth really edges the band on.  Everybody is just so great.  I'm affected by their effectiveness.

"Sell It To A Girl" -  I love the lonely guitar intro. Ambient is all I can think of to describe it..  It shifts to an inspirational feeling when Stewart comes in.  Jazzy and refreshing.  Nice bass line.  "I really should have told you, I really should have known." - Very sensual vibe.

"It Got You Thinking" - This song always takes me on a journey.  From loneliness to fulfillment,  pain to peace.  Nice harmonies and the guitar effects are awesome.  The instrumentation is good and I respect it more every time I hear it!

"Strange Day"The band is jammin'!  Bursting out right away.  This song will have your head bobbing and you'll find that you are staring into space.  Psychedelic music that affects your mental state... and I love their attention to detail and desire to make music that matters.
