once upon a time

Today, I  received an advanced copy of the album Coma.  From the moment I put it on, I knew that it was an album that begs to be listened to from start to finish.  As I listened, to what they seem to do with so much ease, I couldn't help but think that it was a clever disguise for what was obviously a very creative effort.  I have listened to it about four times in full now and with each listening I actually felt the characters building.  Cinematic.  It had feelings of traditional jazz, progressive rock and so many other wonderful styles of music.  But in the end, it screams only one thing: 54 Seconds.

This album finds them refining their sound. They have come up with something completely original. Very emotional and atmospheric, but I think that I would describe it as more atmospheric than out and out emotional. It's genuinely moving and I think it was Gordy (maybe me?) that said it sounded like a movie. Always passionate.  A lot of feelings of love, disappointment, heartbreak, warmth and hope.  I felt sad, melancholy, reflective and hopeful as I listened to it.  Quite the craftsmanship and this album may just be the one to get them the respect that they deserve. They have definitely found themselves.

I look forward to it's official release.  Thank-you 54 Seconds.
