Columbia Icefields, Banff National Park (left). Athabasca Falls, Jasper National Park (right). Unless you enjoy elbowing your way through busloads of tourists, it is better to visit both places in winter. (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Sulfur Mountain, Banff National Park (left). A lazy gondola ride up the mountain. (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Maligne Lake, Jasper National Park (right). (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8).

Beauty Creek, Jasper National Park. Located North of the Columbia Icefields Visitor Centre on Highway 93, the “Icefields Parkway”. (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Wilcox Pass, Jasper National Park (left). A much nicer way to see the Columbia Icefields than what is offered at the visitor center. (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Dawson Falls, Wells Grey Provincial Park, British Columbia. Known by some as “Little Niagara”.  (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Helmcken Falls, Wells Grey Provincial Park (right). (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Bow Lake (left, below left), Banff National Park. A few minutes south of the Bow Summit on Highway 93. You can hike (right) to the bottom of the Bow Falls (below right) in about an hour from the parking lot. This area can be very busy on weekends because a lot of tour buses stop at the parking lot. However, if you do the hike to the falls you will leave almost everyone behind. (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Nigel Creek, Nigel Pass Trail, Banff National Park. The trailhead is located ~10 minutes south of the Columbia Icefields visitor center on Highway 93. It takes about three hours to reach the top of the pass (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Nigel Pass Trail, Banff National Park, Alberta. The pass itself is covered in berry bushes. You need to watch out for bears here! (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Helen Lake, Banff National Park (right). The trail (below left, below right) is accessible from the Crowfoot Glacier lookout just south of Bow Lake on Highway 93. Once above the tree line, the area is lousy with marmots, as well as short people wearing bush hats. (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Moose, Edith Cavell Road, Jasper National Park. A late-adolescent male moose placidly fattening himself up for the up-coming rut. Do not approach these animals! (Olympus OM4T, Zuiko 135mm, f3.5)

Bald Hills Ridge, Jasper National Park, Alberta. A spectacular hike along an easily accessible ridge. The trail is accessible from Maligne Lake, and it takes about 2 hours to reach the ridge. (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Athabasca River, Wabasso Campground, Jasper National Park (left, right). Taken from the riverside trail at the Wabasso Campground. (Olympus OM4T, Zuiko 135mm, f3.5)

Geraldine Lakes Trail, Jasper National Park. An ankle jarring, knee-bruising slog passed some interesting waterfalls (left). Shown to the right is the viewl ooking back down into the valley (right). (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Lower Sunwapta Falls, Jasper National Park (right). Way nicer than Athabasca Falls! (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Medicine Lake, Jasper National Park. The famous “draining lake”. (Olympus OM10, Zuiko 50mm, f1.8)

Locomotives, Jasper Townsite. Jasper started out as a railway town. (Nikon FE2, Tamron 28-70mm, f3.5-4.5)
