I am a Canadian artist, who lives and works in Edmonton, located between the Rocky Mountains and the beautiful prairies.
Painting and drawing have been a part of my life since childhood. Picasso said it best, "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain artist once he grows up." I believe that creativity never really goes away, it just changes as your life evolves. After much encouragement by a favorite aunt I enrolled in the Fine Art Certificate Program at the University of Alberta; graduating in 2004, I produced a solo show for the Extension Centre Gallery.
My primary painting medium is acrylic, which allows the creation of interesting textures and beautiful transparent glazes. I also love to draw using chalk pastels, colored pencils, and other drawing media.
When travelling abroad, along with a camera, I bring a variety of graphite and colored pencils, which allows me to quickly capture the essence of the local surroundings. These sketches and photographs can then be brought back to the studio to become a painting or simply remain what they are--a remembrance of a moment in time.
My passion for photography began many years ago, after receiving a small Kodak Starflash camera. Today's digital cameras and technology allow for even more creativity. Photographing people during their special moments, recording a wedding story with images, capturing that emotional moment in time. I can't help but love what I do.
