HOW TO USE THIS APPLET

Drag the drum/ratchet of the caliper left or right to make gross adjustments to the spread of the jaws of the caliper.

DOWN/UP ARROW KEYS

Use the down and up arrow keys to make fine adjustments to the spread of the jaws of the caliper [ 0.001 mm ].
Use the shift-down and shift-up arrow keys to make fine adjustments to the spread of the jaws of the caliper [ 0.002 mm ].
Use the control-down and control-up arrow keys to make fine adjustments to the spread of the jaws of the caliper [ 0.010 mm ].

LEFT/RIGHT ARROW KEYS

Use the left and right arrow keys to make medium adjustments to the spread of the jaws of the caliper [ 0.050 mm ].
Use the shift-left and shift-right arrow keys to make medium adjustments to the spread of the jaws of the caliper [ 0.100 mm ].
Use the control-left and control-right arrow keys to make medium adjustments to the spread of the jaws of the caliper [ 1.000 mm ].

If the arrow keys don't respond, click the cursor in the applet frame then try again.

Use the "RESET" button to restore the applet to the initial state.

Usual screen resolution is set to 72 dots per inch. Assuming that 1 in = 2.54 cm, one centimeter would be 3600/127 dots (about 28) in length. For the caliper applet to work properly on the screen, the visual scale must be larger. As a result, lengths will not look accurate. This applet will still promote the concept of reading Micrometer calipers, even if lengths are larger than normal.
