Regular meeting of the municipal council of Hallam held Aug 12 in C.O.F. Hall. Members present: Reeve - J.C. McMillan; D. McMillan; Councillors - M. Cloughley, Geo. Harris, S.J. Hawkins.

Moved by McMillan and Coughley that the minutes of last meeting to be read and adopted. Carried.

Moved by Harris and Cloughley that S.J. Hawkins act as clerk pro tem. Carried.

Moved by McMillan and Cloughley that a bylaw be drafted to establish a road on the west side of Lot 12 Con. 6 township of Hallam, half a mile south to the established road. Carried.

Moved by McMillan and Cloughely that Hawkins write the Municipal World and ask if Council can compel Foresters to put a close railing round outside of stairway landing.

Moved by Cloughley and Harris that we adjourn to meet at 1 pm. Carried.

Business resume at 1:45 p.m.

Moved by Harris and McMillan that Bylaw #137 be read a third time. Carried.

Moved by Harris and McMillan that the following bills be paid:

Jno. Brouse: for helping Gannon on hill $1.00
Frank Currie: hauling plank $.50
J.C. McMillan: handcuffs & baton $6.85
Geo. Harris: for supplies for Mrs. McMillan $1.60
N.H. Fairburn: work on sidewalks $7.25
Purvis Bros: hardware account $4.70
Hugh McMaster: blacksmith for scow $4.90

Carried.

Moved by Geo. Harris and McMillan that Jas. Brownelle be given the job of building a bridge across the Boda Creek on Lot 10 Con. 6 Hallam. Price to be paid $50. Carried.

Moved by Coughley and Harris that Jno. Spellman be appointed poll tax collector at a commission of 25 per cent. Carried.

Moved by Cloughley and Harris that the C.P.R. road company be notified to repair the crossing at east end of town and also to put in the new one west of the East semphore, notice of which was given before. Carried.

Moved by D. McMillan and Hawkins that we adjourn to meet on Sept 9 at 10 A.M. Carried.

The Township of Hallam Council met Sept 9 in the I.O.O.F. Hall of Webbwood. Members present: Reeve - J.C. McMillan; Geo. Harris, D. McMillan, Matthew Cloughley, S.J. Hawkins.

Following accounts paid:

Joseph Toland: repairs $1.00
Archie McKay: repairs $5.00
Municipal World $1.95
James Mullen: plank $3.60
S.J. Hawkins $1.88
Geo. Harris: for Mrs. J. McMillan $4.09
Joseph Toland: Board of Commissioners account $7.00

Mrs. Davidson must remove the fences from road allowance immediately or the council will remove same and have the costs charged against the property.

By S.J. Hawkins, seconded by M. Cloughley that the municipal rate was struck at 7 3/4 mills and that the school rate be 11 1/4 on the same dollar. The Council meets again Oct 14 in the same place.

Hallam Council met to-day with these members present. Reeve J.C. McMillan and councillors: McMillan, Hawkins, Cloughley, Harris.

The Sault Express will be paid the balance of account for printing in 1900. The clerk was ordered to wire the Sault Star to have voter's lists forwarded immediately. These bills were ordered paid.

J.C. McMillan: plank adn labour $1.50
Jas. Brunell: repairs to bridge $50.00

Messers. Danl. McMillan and Jno. McCloughley were appointed to a committee to look over the water course on the road at Lot 12 and find natural water course. The clerk was ordered to prepare the collector's roll and deliver to collector not later than 21 Oct.

Hallam Council met to-day. D. McMillan reported that he had inspected the water course on Lot 12 and cannot find any natural water course or outlet.

The following accounts were passed:

James Mullen: plank $3.24

Mr. Cloughley was ordered to build a bridge on the road at Lot 10 in 2nd Concession for less than $25 and to have the same completed this fall.

M. Cloughley reported he has let a contract to John Chapman for $25 for building a bridge and cutting out the road on the east side of the bridge. The work is to be finished this week.

A by-law was drafted extending the time for return of Collector's Roll, also By-law setting time and place for holding nomination meeting and election for members of Council and two school trustees.

Alex Currier was granted a pool table license for one Pool Table for six months for $7.50
