Tour shirts for sale
...and another great review thanks to Dave Whitlock
My
wife, Marisol, and I saw the show last night (Tuesday June 27th) at the
Starland Ballroom is Sayreville, New Jersey. The doors opened at
7 pm and Robin came on around 9:45. We arrived around 9 pm and the
place was already packed. I am not sure how many people the place
holds, but it must have been close to sold out. The crowd was as
enthusiastic as I can ever remember for a Trower show (and I have been
to over 30 of them over the years)- cheering during the guitar solos and
after each song. Usually there is cheering after the old favorites
and light applause after the newer tunes - but this time each song got
a loud cheer. It was strange not to hear "Too Rolling Stoned" to
open the set, but it was welcome in the middle of the set list. The
highlight for me was hearing "Roads to Freedom" live - as it has always
been one of my favorites and reminds me so much of James Dewar. Robin
played great and seemed to feed off the energy from the audience.
Davey sang great and Dave Bronze and Pete Thompson providedflawless rhythm.
At
the end of the show I was standing about 10 rows of people back in the
audience (there are no seats) and Robin customarily threw his guitar pick
into the audience. It sailed farther than usual and suddenly it was
coming straight for me. It went right through my hands (no I wasn't
drunk) and hit me right on the forehead and I quickly gathered it
off the
floor. Kind of ironic that the pick ended up with one of the biggest
Trower fans in the place.
The
sales of T-Shirts and DVDs seemed to be going well after the show.
Can't wait
for the show on Thursday at BB Kings in NYC - which I hear is sold out.
Good thing I got my tickets a month ago at the Yellowman show.
