Golden Spike National Historic Site

On May 10, 1869, the Union Pacific Railroad met the Central Pacific Railroad at Promontory, Utah, to finish the first transcontinental railroad in the United States. The site has been preserved, and there is a visitor centre complete with replicas of the locomotives that were involved in the historic ceremony. The golden spike ceremony is re-enacted on a regular basis.
