This bed has the clean simple lines of contemporary style. The ovoid arch of the headboard and the bedside table are derived directly from First Nations art.

Bedside Table Price: approximately $1000.00 each (not including the wood)

I made this bed with solid rosewood from India. Rosewood is very expensive, if it is available at all.

The corner of the bed is a veneered bent lamination. I had to build myself a vacuum veneer press to produce this marvel of woodworking skill ! The vacuum press opens up whole new avenues for doing curved pieces. Look for more curved work from me in the future.

The curved lamination of the corner permits the continuous flow of the wood grain along the side, around the corner, across the footboard, and along the other side. Making this shape with solid wood would require changing the grain direction on the corners, and coopering the corners with narrow pieces like the vertical staves in a barrel. Preserving the grain direction would require the corner to have "short grain" in some areas. This would make the corner very fragile. Neither the short grain approach, nor the coopering approach to curving the corner is as stong as the lamination. This corner is so strong, it would not break if a truck were to run over it.
