EXOTIC PETS The "Exotic Pets Patch" gives some of the roles un- usual starting pets. Rogues Monkey Rangers Wolf (1 in 4 is a baby winter wolf) Cavemen " Tourists Baby crocodile Remarks: Offler *is* a crocodile god, but he's the wrong diety for neutral tourists. Oh, well. Monkeys have a theft attack, but are weaker than other types of pets. The exotic pets are not super-powered. If anything, they're weaker than cats and dogs. Just like dogs and cats, exotic pets start out small and weak, but grow with time. (I couldn't add things like "large wolves" without making saved-game files and bones files incompatible, so the growth isn't obvious.) Tourists can try to tame crocodiles and baby croco- diles with food. Rangers and Cavemen can try to tame winter wolf cubs. Rogues can try to tame monkeys with food; bananas work best. Setting options: You can set default pet names in your options file (defaults.nh for DOS / Windows): OPTIONS=monkeyname:Muggs OPTIONS=wolfname:Gnasher OPTIONS=crocodilename:TickTock If you don't specify pettype, Rogues / Rangers / Cave- men / Tourists get an exotic pet a third of the time. To get an exotic pet every time you play Ro / Ra / C / T, use: OPTIONS=pettype:exotic
