Documents

While doing family tree research I have been able to copy many documents and letters and I present some of them here for you to view. I would of course welcome documents and letters for other family members.

A Brief Sketch of the McDormand Family as told to me by my Grandfather – Joel McDormand

Annie McDormand (1862-1964) recorded family history information that was told to her by her grandfather Joel McDormand (1793-1883). This was written between 1935 & 1937 or over 50 years after his death. It was subsequently copied on August 21, 1947 from a copy of the original work. Rather than simply scanning this typed three page document I elected to re-type it to speed the downloading of this web page. The only change I made was the correcting of the spelling of one person's name. While some of the information now appears to be incorrect it does tell an interesting story and provides a further insight into our family history.

Excerpts From McDormand – Morse Genealogy, as prepared by Mary (Morse) Ditmars

I have typed out the information prepared by Mary (Morse) Ditmars to improve readability & reduce the page loading time. This is provided to furnish interesting details of the history of some of our ancestors. I have is no doubt that my copy is a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy and some of the information is more difficult to read particularly when an error was corrected by typing over the error. I have attempted to type out the document word for word and have left some spelling errors as is. I have added some additional information or included some hand written notes but have done so using a dark red colour to distinguish that for the original document. I have added a one page standard Pedigree Tree for Mary so you can see how she fits in the family.

The Last Will and Testament of William McDormand, Jr. (1739-1837)

William McDormand Junior's will is comprised of 3 pages, 2 letters & a cover letter requesting Probate. I have tried to reduce the size and cut out any unnecessary parts of each page. I have also inverted the colour of each copy (from black background and white writing) which I believe improves the readability. Thanks go to Brian McDormand for finding this will and sharing a copy with us.

The Last Will and Testament of Wilson McDormand (1792-1835)

It is comprised of 2 pages & is followed by a typed transcription of the will of Wilson McDormand. I have tried to reduce the size and cut out any unnecessary parts of each page. I have also inverted the colour of each copy (from black background and white writing) which I believe improves the readability. Thanks to Brian McDormand for finding the will & making the transcription and sharing a copy with us.

Newspaper account of Private William A Shute during the Civil War.

I have typed out a transcription to save the downloading of the actual newspaper clipping but I can send it to anyone who wishes it. William A Shute report.
