Origin of Name

The "Delve" family name first appeared in ancient medieval records in Cheshire, England and traces their ancestral roots back to Anglo Saxon origin.

Our Delve family can be traced from about 1650 to the late 1800's and originated from the county of Devonshire, England; namely Morchard Bishop. Many generations of Delves can be found in Morchard Bishop which is a large village northwest of Crediton.

In about 1852 our direct ancestor, John Delve moved on to Torquay, Devonshire, a town about 22 miles south of Exeter. By 1870 another move was made to the St Sidwell area in the city of Exeter, Devonshire.
